I Don't Wanna Cry
(Old West)

I Don't Wanna Cry
by Mariah Carey

Once again we sit in silence
After all is said and done
Only emptiness inside us
Baby, look what we've become
We can make a million promises
But we still won't change
It isn't right to stay together
When you only bring each other pain
I don't wanna cry
Don't wanna cry
Nothing in the world
Could take us back
To where we used to be
Though I've given you my heart and soul
I must find a way of letting go
'Cause baby, I don't wanna cry
Too far apart to bridge the distance
But something keeps us hanging on and on
Pretending not to know the difference
Denying what we had is gone
Every moment we're together
It's just breaking me down
I know we swore it was forever
But it hurts too much to stay around
I don't wanna cry
Don't wanna cry
Nothing in the world
Could take us back
To where we used to be
Though I've given you my heart and soul
I must find a way of letting go
'Cause baby, I don't wanna cry
All the magic's gone
There's just a shadow of a memory
Something just went wrong
We can't go on make-believing
I don't wanna cry
Don't wanna cry
Nothing in the world
Could take us back
To where we used to be
Though I've given you my heart and soul
I must find a way of letting go
'Cause baby, I don't wanna cry

Mary Travis looked up and saw Chris Larabee standing by the window of his room. He had a very sullen look on his handsome face. She got up and wrapped the sheet around her naked body and walked over, placing her arms around his muscular chest, and felt him stiffen slightly. She frowned and pulled away.

"Chris?" she asked softly. He sighed and looked over his shoulder.

"I don't think this was a good idea," he said. Mary felt her heart drop.

"You don't?" she whispered, her arms falling. Chris turned around, and felt bad when he saw Mary's tears. He sighed again.

"I am sorry, but I..." he began, he didn't know what to say. One person kept filtering through his brain. He had met her briefly in Eagle Bend and she had plagued his dreams since. He almost called out her name while he had been making love to Mary tonight. He didn't understand though, he barely knew the woman, and they had barely talked, let alone had any type of contact whatsoever, but yet she was first in his mind lately.

Mary looked away and walked to the bed, sinking down, her back to him. She was heartbroken. Chris walked over and placed a hand on her shoulder, but she brushed it away standing quickly. She glared at him, her pale green eyes cold.

"Don't touch me!" she hissed. She let the sheet drop, allowing him to see her body again, before she wiggled into her dress, picking up her underpinnings and heading out of his room, slamming the door behind her.

Mary walked furiously back to her home, and slammed the door of the newspaper shut behind her, and hurled her underpinnings at the wall, cursing Chris Larabee's miserable hide. She felt her control slipping as she began throwing more things around the room.

Ezra Standish heard all of the commotion and burst in only to have to duck as Mary threw a book at his head.

"Mrs. Travis?" he asked concerned.

"Get out!" she screamed like a banshee. He was taken aback, but closed the door, then sat outside, waiting for her anger to pass. He heard the breaking of thrown objects subside, and heard a small thump. He opened the door and found Mary on her knees sobbing. He walked over to her, and leaned down, pulling her into his arms. She struggled, pushing in his chest.

"I said get out!" she cried. Ezra shook his head.

"No, you are in pain, and as someone who considers them self your friend, will not let you be in pain alone," he said firmly, not letting his hold on her slack. She gave up, and collapsed against him, sobbing. Ezra silently cursed Chris, but knew he was not completely to blame. He had feelings as well and didn't necessarily have to return Mary's love for him. Ezra managed to get up, and swing her into his arms, and take her to her room. He stayed with her until her tears subsided, and she fell asleep.

He walked outside, and looked up seeing Chris shuffling his feet.

"How...?" he began, his head nodding to Mary. Ezra sighed.

"She will be fine, but she needs time, and distance," was all he said. Ezra began to walk away before he looked at Chris again.

"I do not envy either one of you my friend, but life delivers cruel blows, I just hope your pains are worth it," he said softly, before tipping his hat to Chris, and walking away. Chris watched him go, looked at Mary's door, and prayed he was right.

Please god, let him be right, he thought, and he walked away from Mary's love, forever.

Questions of who this mystery woman is that Chris thought of will be answered in an upcoming fic. Stay tuned!!!!!
